        The spring greens traditionally symbolize the rebirth of spring, just as adoption represents new life for an adopted child. but we dip them in saltwater to remind us of a birthmother's tears, with this blessing:

            Blessed art thou, O Eternal our God, Ruler of the Universe, Creator of the fruits of the earth.
